‘Integrating Innovative Ideas’ will be theme of the NE LHIN Rural Health Summit

The NE LHIN is hosting a meeting with CEOs and senior hospital officials, as well as Board Chairs, and Vice Chairs have been invited to participate in discussions September 23rd and 24th in Sault Ste. Marie on the challenges they face, regardless of their number of beds or variety of services. The summit will provide an opportunity for our region’s 22 small and rural hospitals to identify innovative and creative ideas to help improve the health of citizens living in rural communities.

Marie, North Bay and Timmins—as well as the North East Community Care Access Centre  and the Northeast Mental Health Centre met in Sudbury on Aug. 26 and 27 to discuss ways of improving the delivery of health care in this part of the province and ways of responding as a region to common issues. Subjects on the agenda included improving the movement of Alternative Level of Care patients (mainly the frail and elderly) through hospitals into more appropriate care settings,  service planning, managing chronic diseases such as diabetes, and the merging of the provincial and federal hospitals in the James Bay coastal  area in October.   The focus of the meeting, hosted by the North East LHIN,  was on sharing information and performance numbers so that the hospitals can use each other’s best practices as well as develop new ones.

NE LHIN Engages with Aboriginal Leaders

August 24, the NE LHIN met with Aboriginal health leaders from all across the region to discuss traditional healing initiatives underway in Northeastern Ontario ant tour the Medicine Lodge at the Hôpital régional de Sudbury Regional Hospital. Engaging with the cultural diversity of Northeastern Ontario is an important part of setting health care priorities for the region. The NE LHIN’s Local Aboriginal Health Committee meets on a regular basis.

NE LHIN Welcomes Three Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics and Six New Family Health Teams

Nurse practitioner-led clinics are a great option for people in need of primary care. Three new nurse practitioner-led clinics will be located in Capreol, North Bay and Thessalon. The clinics are in addition to the three already located in Northeastern Ontario in Sudbury/Lively, Sault Ste. Marie, and French River.
