Our Communities
Created by the provincial government in 2006, Ontario’s fourteen Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) work in partnership with health service providers and community members to determine the health care needs at the local level. Mandated to improve access and the quality of health services throughout Northeastern Ontario, the NE LHIN plans, integrates and funds in partnership with hospitals, community care access centres, community support services, long-term care, community health centres and mental health and addictions services.
The North East LHIN provides leadership for community engagement activities, in order to set local health care priorities and help to determine solutions to the challenges facing Northeastern Ontario’s health care system.
With a geographic span of 400,000 square kilometers, the NE LHIN is divided into seven planning areas. This breakdown allows the NE LHIN to better serve its population and engage with the citizens of the region while strengthening partnerships to foster a more enhanced local health care system.
