Algoma’s mental health and addictions integrated Anchor Agency is well underway in Northeastern Ontario. The 2011 year brought to fruition a vision that was developed by the Board Chairs of the Algoma mental health and addictions health service providers – a vision that was created in 2009. By listening to the input and feedback from regional, provincial, and national stakeholders, a new Board of Directors has been established to govern the new integrated Anchor Agency. The Board was officially introduced to the community on November 28, 2011 at an engagement held at Sault College. Chair, Peter Vaudry, emphasized that additional geographical and cultural representation is still needed on the Board.

At this time, the North East LHIN has encouraged the board to focus on four priorities during the first six months of 2012:

Propose a starting budget.
Begin planning the Section 27 voluntary integration process in collaboration with health service providers.
Hire a Chief Executive Officer and Executive Assistant.
Complete the incorporation process.

The Board of Directors has adopted a phased-in approach to the integration; however, the timelines are being evaluated to ensure that the people and families in Algoma are cared for during this transition. Better clarity will be gained when a CEO is hired to begin orchestrating the operational model of the new Agency.
